Privacy Statement
We are sensitive to the concerns of many parents and teachers who fear misuse of this program. When planning and implementing all of our Handwriting Projects, VTCLC puts forth their best effort and addresses all concerns brought to our attention. Pen Pals and Handwriting Magazine are no exception to this standard and several safeguards are in place.
Elementary school students typically write letters during classroom time under supervision and guidance from their teacher. Letter writing is an important part of literacy development and satisfies S.O.L.s for many grade levels. Letters are read through by the teacher and then passed on to the site contact for that school. He or she will then deliver the letters to the VTCLC Coordinators and the Managing Editor of Handwriting Magazine, who take them back to our office for another screening. After reviewing all the letters, the VTCLC makes copies which we keep on file. The originals are then delivered to Hokie Pen Pals who have one week to write their responses. Those letters are returned to the VTCLC Office where they will be screened and copies are then paired with the original student's letter. All letters are proofread before they are exchanged with a site contact. All correspondence will be made available to parents, guardians or teachers upon their request. Such requests should be made in person when possible, or they can be made over the phone to the VTCLC Coordinators. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us.
